According to Chinese media reports, the explosion occurred at Tianjiayi Chemical Co., Ltd. in Xiangshui County, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. The incident took place at about 2:48 p.m. on Thursday (March 21).

As of noon on Friday, the Agence France Presse reported 64 deaths. Chinese officials have claimed that more than 90 people were injured. Pengmei News reported that more than 600 people were injured in the incident. In addition, AFP claims that a survivor was rescued from the explosion site and taken to hospital.
